THE SLOW FOOD MOVEMENT

Slow Food began in Italy with the foundation of its forerunner organization, Arcigola, in 1986 to resist the opening of a McDonald's near the Spanish steps in Rome.

From the point of view of the slow food movement being the opposite of fast food (Of course it is much more than that) a slow food plate is needed to eat slowly and enjoy , Slow Food is an idea, a way of living and a way of eating. It is a global, grassroots movement with thousands of members around the world that links the pleasure of food with a commitment to community and the environment. See Slow food USA

In 2004 Slow Food even opened a University of Gastronomic Sciences; this is just an example of how preparing food has evolved a lot but serving food has not, a plate has been always just a plate for centuries, but now there are slow food plates which have a real impact on how food is enjoyed, capable of remaining hot even after 30 min plus to keep food hot at the table, see: www.HotSmartUSA.com
